Tobin is known for his fearless representation of people from all walks of life with cases involving catastrophic injury, wrongful death, traumatic brain injury, product liability, heavy machinery, trucking and train incidents, employment issues and government liability.
Tobin was named a 2016 California Consumer Attorney of the Year, along with his former partners Bruce Broillet, Scott Carr and Molly McKibben for their Andrews v. Marriott $55 million trial result. His trial verdicts and settlements have exceeded $150 million.
Tobin has represented clients and cases from all over the United States—including California, Washington, Nevada, Texas, Colorado, Tennessee, New York and Arizona. He is licensed in both California and New Mexico.
Tobin has been named a “Super Lawyer” every year since 2014 (2014 – 2025) and has been honored by Best Lawyers in America as “Best Lawyer Product Liability Litigation” 2020 – 2023.
Known for his exceptional trial skills and willingness to take on difficult cases, Tobin is often asked to work with other lawyers to help navigate their cases through trial. Recently, Tobin represented clients in multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements, including a Ventura County Superior Court jury award of $3.5 million for his clients and a San Bernardino Superior Court jury awarding over $2.5 million to another client.
Tobin’s career began at one of the premier plaintiff’s law firms in the nation, Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP. As he developed under some of the best trial lawyers in California, Tobin focused on cases that created impactful change for the community. For example, Tobin’s comprehensive investigation and litigation were integral in the high-profile Santa Monica Farmers’ Market case. After an elderly man mowed down victims at the weekly farmers’ market, the City of Santa Monica and other defendants paid a multi-million dollar settlement that led to the installation of protective barriers, ensuring that the weekly farmers’ market is a safer environment for every person and child who visits.
Tobin graduated from Santa Clara University, where he was a varsity pitcher for the baseball team. He was then drafted to play professional baseball and spent three years pitching for the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. After his baseball career, Tobin attended law school and received his degree from the University of San Diego.
